BIOSKETCHDr Urvashni Nirghin is an academic and researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her optometric experience and service to the profession extends over 25 years. She has completed an Advanced Certificate in Ocular Diagnostic (UKZN) in 2011, graduated with a Master’s degree (cum laude) specifically focusing in Paediatric Optometry, Reading and Low Vision at UKZN in 2013, completed the didactic component of Ocular Therapeutics at UKZN (Discipline of Optometry) and SUNY College of Optometry (USA) in 2015, and graduated with Doctor of Philosophy (Health Sciences) in 2019.She is involved in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, serves as external examiner for various Optometry Disciplines at Institutions in South Africa, has graduated many honours and masters students, published in and served as reviewer for national and international journals. Urvashni served as the Academic Leader for the Discipline of Optometry during the period of 2020 and 2021, and served on various committees within the School of Health Sciences.
